Tua Tagovailoa certainly sounds like someone who prefers to never take another snap for the Miami Dolphins.

After an ugly Week 15 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tua Tagovailoa was benched in favor of rookie Quinn Ewers. The 27-year-old finished the season with a 67.7 completion percentage, 2,660 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 picks.

To make the situation messier? Tagovailoa just finished the first season of a four-year, $212.4 million extension he signed in 2024. Therefore, cutting Tagovailoa would cost Miami a significant amount of cash.

But if Miami can make it work, the 2020 first-round pick would happily welcome a fresh start.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Tua Tagovailoa indicated that he’d like to leave the Dolphins, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“That would be dope,” Tagovaiola said. “I would be good with it.”

Tagovailoa may not be the only notable Dolphins player to leave in the offseason. Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome season-ending knee injury in Week 4 against the New York Jets. Entering his age-32 season, Hill will likely have to take a giant hometown discount to stay in Miami. If they even want to keep him.

Which Teams Make Sense For Tua Tagovailoa?

Assuming Miami releases Tagovailoa and sends him to free agency, there should be several clubs interested in taking a flier on him. If the Minnesota Vikings want to find competition for JJ McCarthy, they could look at Tagovailoa.

The Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets make sense if they prefer to start a veteran QB in Week 1, even if they draft a quarterback in round one. Maybe the Pittsburgh Steelers? If Aaron Rodgers decides to retire.

With the Arizona Cardinals poised to move on from Kyler Murray, Tagovailoa could be targeted as a potential solution. He’d have Trey McBride, Michael Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr. and James Conner as his main weapons, after all.
