It’s not a great time to fly in the U.S. And sports teams could be faced with some trouble, given that they’re frequent flyers.

The partial government shutdown impacted the Department of Homeland Security and TSA. But things have gotten a lot worse following a fatal crash at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Sunday night.

An Air Canada flight hit a fire truck while attempting to land on the runway following an Air Traffic Control miscommunication, per the AP.

Two pilots reportedly lost their lives, with one having since been identified

The airport suspended operations until Monday afternoon, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

Of course, most teams can charter flights. However, they can’t always get around the use of a regular airport.

March Madness is now well underway, but the NCAA has issued a travel warning, citing issues beyond its control.

“Nationwide, significantly fewer charter aircraft are available due to several factors outside of NCAA control,” it reads.

“The logistical challenge of moving almost all participating teams for both tournaments within 12-72 hours beginning (Selection) Sunday night is compounded by the busy spring break travel season, the national shortage of charter aircraft nationwide and the potential TSA impact of the partial government shutdown,” the notice continues.

The NCAA has told all teams that they will be able to travel to their destinations, but should brace for potential changes.

“While the NCAA assured all participating teams they will get to where they need to go safely the NCAA also advised all teams that extreme flexibility – especially the first week of the championships will be necessary,” it added.

Major League Baseball could face issues, as it’s set to begin its regular season this week. The league’s 30 teams will be flying all across the country every few days.

Moreover, the NBA season is winding down, with the playoffs scheduled to start soon.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has sent ICE agents to airports around the U.S. to fill in for missing staff.

Teams and fans will hope this will all be over soon.
