It is Drake Maye’s time to shine.

The New England Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl after the team squeaked out a 10-7 victory over the Denver Broncos. It was a game that did not feature Bo Nix after he fractured his ankle the week before. The quarterback will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the season.

That means the New England Patriots had an even better chance of reaching the Super Bowl, which they did. Maye called his own number with the AFC Championship Game on the line. According to The Boston Herald, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels called an outside zone run for Rhamondre Stevenson in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots held a three-point lead at the time. Instead of handing the ball to Stevenson, Maye kept it and ran out to the left. He beat the Broncos’ defense for a first down.

A play like that is what makes Drake Maye different than other quarterbacks. At least one person noticed his talent early on.

Back in 2012, Drake Maye was 9 years old. Nobody knew about him outside his family and friends. Well, it seems one other guy was watching him closely.

Maye was six years old when he convinced his parents to let him switch from flag football to tackle. That decision would make the family rich beyond means just a few years later. While in elementary school, a guy named Justin Farkas described Maye as “the best athlete I’ve ever seen.”

His comment came after seeing the young football star run circles around the older kids he was playing against in August 2012.

Maye was more than just his football talents. He had two tremendous seasons at North Carolina before getting drafted third overall by the Patriots in 2024. Drake Maye had to put the work into his studies at North Carolina. He received All-ACC Academic Team honors in 2023 and finished with a 3.2 GPA, according to EssentiallySports.

The standout QB has been making incredible decisions his entire life.
