Vikings Replace JJ McCarthy With $275-Million, 2-Time Pro Bowl QB In Blockbuster Trade Proposal That Would Flip The NFL On Its Head

The Minnesota Vikings could end up the 2025 NFL season on a positive note after a tumultuous campaign. The Vikings were one of the teams with at least 12 wins in 2024 to miss the playoffs this season. They joined other strong teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs (15-2 in 2024), the Detroit Lions (15-2) and the Washington Commanders (12-5), among others.
After falling to 4-8, the Vikings entered a four-game winning streak. They sit at 8-8 ahead of the season finale against the Green Bay Packers. They are leaving good impressions, even without McCarthy on the field.
However, the quarterback’s struggles, which include a sack on himself, could prompt the Vikings’ front office to seek external help and bring somebody in to lead a roster that still looks Super Bowl-ready.
NFL insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports noted on Saturday that Joe Burrow could be on the Vikings’ radar in the offseason. The competition won’t be easy. It’s unclear if the Cincinnati Bengals would entertain the idea of shipping Burrow. However, the player hasn’t ruled out a move away.
“Teams that figure to be in the quarterback market include the Raiders, Browns, Jets, Dolphins and Cardinals,” Jones wrote. “The Steelers, Colts, Rams and Vikings could also all be in need of a quarterback depending upon how the early offseason plays out.”
Vikings beat Lions on Christmas without JJ McCarthy

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell has done a remarkable job preparing his team to face any adversity, including JJ McCarthy not being available. After helping Sam Darnold take the squad to a 14-3 record in 2024, the Vikings entered the season with higher expectations, as McCarthy supposedly learned a lot behind Darnold.
He has missed seven games this season. Max Brosmer started against the Detroit Lions in Week 17. The Vikings won the game with three net yards. They will have to finish the season with a positive record with a win in Week 18.
McCarthy’s future appears to be locked ahead of the season. The former Michigan Wolverines star struggled to find consistency all season long, and the Vikings could turn to a proven veteran like Joe Burrow to compete for a Super Bowl.
