The feeling around the Washington Commanders is much different one year later after a terrible 2025 season.
Commanders General Manager Adam Peters and Head Coach Dan Quinn spoke to the media this week. The team is preparing for its offseason since it did not qualify for the postseason. They plan to evaluate the roster and coaching staff, but weren’t ready to announce any changes as of yet.
They acknowledged that the team needs to get younger and faster, but there was one comment that is making waves.
Both Quinn and Peter called the season a disappointment. Peters seemed to be on board with the team, making it worse during Week 18. On Sunday, the Washington Commanders went into Lincoln Financial Field and fought for a victory.
The victory improved their record to 5-12. They entered Week 18 projected to have the No. 7 overall pick, and that’s where they’re slated to pick in April. A loss would have given them the No. 5 pick.
During the press conference, general manager Adam Peters said he had told Dan Quinn to tank that game, but he refused. He smiled while saying it, but it should garner attention from the league’s office.

The Washington Commanders Have A Lot of Questions To Answer During The Offseason
Many changes need to be made. The Washington Commanders wrapped up a frustrating and unexpected 2025 season with a 5-12 record. This followed last season’s surprising 12-5 run to the NFC Championship Game.
Fans expected the team to be just as competitive, if not better.
Unfortunately, a wave of injuries would hurt the team all year. Jayden Daniels dislocated his elbow. Daron Payne was suspended one game for punching Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Zach Ertz also had a devastating knee injury that ended his year.
Coaching staff questions, including the future of offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, have already been decided. The team parted ways with Kingsbury on Tuesday, per Adam Schefter.
Protecting Daniels and reducing the burden on the young quarterback is another focal point. That could come via the draft or free agency.
