The Chicago Bears plan to move to a different location, potentially taking them away from the Windy City soon. They could go all the way to Hammond, Indiana.

As of now, two places are competing to become the Bears’ next home. Besides Hammond, Arlington Heights remains in contention to host the iconic franchise. However, Arlington Heights’ mayor noted a big problem with the city directly competing against his.

According to Jim Tinaglia, the proposed Hammond location for a new stadium can have major issues.

Indiana’s Proposed Location For New Chicago Bears Stadium Allegedly Has Massive Problems

The Arlington Heights mayor, who is an architect by training, said he knows firsthand that sites like the Hammond location for a new stadium can come with significant issues.

I would throw up the red caution flags immediately,” Tinaglia told the Chicago Tribune. “I’ve worked on enough sites with gas stations or dry cleaners or some sort of hazardous material to know it contaminates the ground. I would be very concerned about selecting a site like that.”

Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. said the team was aware of the waste issue near the stadium. They have studied the safety to build there.

“I understand people want to take a close look, but the Bears know far more about environmental concerns in that area than any of us, because they’re spending millions of dollars on it,” he said.

This could be a big issue for the NFC North. The relocation has been a complex process.
