A wild rumor has surfaced of the Cincinnati Bengals trading both Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase to a surprise NFC team in a move that would turn the NFL upside down.

Last week, Joe Burrow made headlines with his rather depressing press conference. Burrow said he must “have fun” if he’s going to continue playing football. He also admitted he was going through a lot, both in football and in his personal life.

This week, the 29-year-old Burrow was asked if he’d consider playing for another NFL team in the future. The two-time Comeback Player of the Year said, “You think about a lot of things.”

Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh floated a blockbuster scenario that would see Cincinnati trade Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase to the New Orleans Saints. Those two, of course, played at nearby LSU in Baton Rouge and led the Tigers to a national championship in 2019:

Any trade involving Burrow or Chase would net multiple first-round picks. Both of them in a package deal? Now you’re talking about a deal involving at least five day one/two draft selections. And probably more.

If the Bengals want to convince Burrow and Chase to stick around long-term, they’d better build a suitable contender around the two superstars.

It’s still mind-boggling that Cincy missed the playoffs last year. You know, when Burrow led the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns while Chase won the triple crown of receiving.

Burrow and Chase presumably won’t request trades in the 2026 offseason. But one more bad year of football may force them to do so. And nobody could blame either player if they asked to leave one of football’s most dysfunctional franchises.
