The NFL season has begun, and the 49ers will be on the field against the Rams on Thursday night. One person who won’t be there is Daejon Love.
The 35-year-old man is currently behind bars after he convincingly posed as a wealthy wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. Love used apps like Tinder and Bumble to build deep, romantic connections with women to swindle them out of money.
However, federal authorities revealed that Love had absolutely no connection to the NFL franchise or professional football. Instead, he spent over $1,100 on a custom replica helmet to record fake training videos.
Love Had An Accomplice

Love wasn’t able to pull off this stunt by himself. He partnered with an 18-year-old accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, to run the scheme. Consequently, Chan posed as a fake financial advisor to push victims into fabricated investment opportunities.
Both of them lied so much that Love’s manufactured social media presence had Google AI Overviews falsely verifying his football career. That was more than enough to trick over 20 women into sending him money.
Ultimately, the FBI arrested both men at an Idaho airport on August 24, 2026.
Daejon Love’s Arrest Video Shows Him Still in 49ers Gear

Last month, federal agents tracked the 35-year-old romance scammer as he prepared to meet his teenage accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan. Specifically, eyewitnesses and camera footage captured the exact moment FBI agents intercepted Love right inside the terminal.
He was so set in his lying ways that Love was fully decked out in official San Francisco 49ers athletic apparel during the entire bust. Consequently, the sight of a man in full NFL team gear being placed in handcuffs shocked onlookers.
The person recording had no clue at the time that Daejon Love was not a real 49ers player. His scheme finally came to an end.
