One World Cup announcer has set the record straight following accusations of disrespect and racism toward Ciara.

The Grammy Award winner attended Team USA’s game against Australia at Lumen Field along with her husband, Russell Wilson, on Friday.

Ciara handled the coin toss before the game, which the USA won 2-0, but made headlines for another reason.

Argentinian commentator Leandro Zapponi is said to have asked, “Who is this black woman?” when the artist showed up on screen during the broadcast.

Zapponi has since called the accusation out as “Fake News,” claiming it was AI-generated.

“In times of Fake News, these people are just trying to cause harm and spread hatred. AI-modified audios that aren’t even funny,” he wrote in a tweet. “It’s sad to have to clarify that I never said and would never say something like that. Here’s the real clip from the broadcast.”

He also shared a clip showing the original footage from Friday’s game.

Meanwhile, the USMNT has qualified for the knockout round of the competition with a game to spare.

Their 2-0 win over Australia leaves them atop Group D and secures their spot in the Round of 32.
