The Los Angeles Rams’ stunning loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night has cost special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn his job.

Among the Rams’ special teams miscues against the Seahawks: They allowed a 58-yard punt return touchdown to Rashid Shaheed to kick-start Seattle’s comeback. Kicker Harrison Mevis also missed a late go-ahead 48-yard field goal attempt.
In the Rams’ Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Joshua Karty’s game-winning 44-yard field goal attempt was blocked. Karty had a 36-yard attempt blocked on the Rams’ possession before that.
And in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers? Another terrible day for Chase Blackburn’s squad at the office. Karty missed a field goal and missed an extra point in a 26-23 overtime loss.
Chase Blackburn Was Hired By Rams In 2023

Blackburn was a key part of the New York Giants’ Super Bowl championship-winning teams in 2007 and 2011. He memorably picked off Tom Brady in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 46, taking away a potential game-changing catch from Rob Gronkowski.
Los Angeles hired Blackburn as its special teams coordinator in 2023. The first two seasons went smoothly as the Rams re-emerged as a Super Bowl contender. But having to replace Karty with Mevis midseason was an indicator that Blackburn was on thin ice. Sure enough, he lost his job.
