The Kansas City Chiefs came close to toppling the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day.

If you read the above sentence with no context or knowledge of the circumstances, you’d probably assume Patrick Mahomes was playing. After all, the Broncos have been one of the two best teams in the NFL this season. 

But no, Mahomes was out. The starting quarterback’s season is over, courtesy of a torn ACL and LCL. 

Not only was Mahomes a scratch, but the Chiefs’ backup, Gardner Minshew, also didn’t play. Minshew freakishly sustained a season-ending lower-body injury right after stepping in as the starter. 

That left KC with Chris Oladokun. While the Chiefs brought Shane Buechele back after Gardner’s injury, Oladokun was the one who got the nod against Denver. 

The former South Dakota State signal-caller slotted right into the offense. He even pulled some Mahomes magic out of his bag, prompting claims of the Chiefs starter being a “system QB.”

Chris Oladokun Sounds A Lot Like Patrick Mahomes

As far as similarities go, the on-field play wasn’t even all. Oladokun spoke to reporters after the game, and one fan noticed how much he sounded like Mahomes. 

“why does he low key sound like mahomes 😭 is that a requirement for a kc qb?” they asked after a video of Oladokun speaking about Travis Kelce possibly retiring popped up online.

“Is this now just the build a player name for the Chiefs quarterback no matter who it is?” someone else asked.

Another user wrote, “Mahomes is System qb they almost beat best team record in nfl with this dude no one heard of ? Without Reid and spags they are below avg team.”

“It’s how they do the qb picks there?” a user asked.

Lights off, he’s definitely passing for Mahomes.
