Patrick Mahomes hasn’t stopped supporting the Kansas City Chiefs after his season was cut short due to an ACL injury. The 2024 AFC champions were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 15 by the Los Angeles Chargers, entering unknown territory for the first time since 2014.

Even so, the Chiefs returned to the field on Christmas to host the Denver Broncos in the third game of the day. Denver escaped Arrowhead Stadium with a 20-13 win to get closer to the AFC West title. Cameras show Mahomes smiling as the Broncos scored a game-winning touchdown on a Bo Nix 1-yard pass to R.J. Harvey with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter.

NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman took issue with Patrick Mahomes’ gesture, criticizing him on social media for smiling while his team was on the verge of losing.

“Yikes: Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes was caught SMILING as the Chiefs gave up the go-ahead touchdown during last night’s game against the Broncos. What an awful look for the face of Kansas City,” Kleiman tweeted.

Many fans disagreed with Kleiman’s take and flooded the comment section with messages supporting Mahomes and saying that he could have been smiling about anything other than his team losing.

“Yikes: Dov tryna get clicks. go figure,” one fan said.

“Dov really out here gaslighting us with that take,” another fan said.

“dov out here trying to push an agenda to gaslight us,” a third fan said.

“Yeah, Mahomes doesn’t have what it takes to win. Chiefs need to focus on finding a franchise QB if they want any chance of winning a championship,” another fan said.

“Lol the season been over for them fam,” another fan wrote.

“Relax, he could have been smiling about something else,” another fan added.

Chris Oladokun, who sounds a lot like Mahomes, started at quarterback for the Chiefs. He went 13 of 22 for 66 yards and one touchdown. The Chiefs’ offense struggled to get going, dropping to 6-10 ahead of the season finale.
