Two-Time Super Bowl Champion QB Named as Shocking Potential Replacement for Shedeur Sanders on Cleveland Browns

Shedeur Sanders failed to make a better impression during his rookie NFL season. The former Colorado Buffaloes star endured a tough draft process that included a dramatic slip to the fifth round. After that, Sanders didn’t get much playing time, which started to raise eyebrows in the league.
It was not until Week 11, when fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion, that Sanders entered the field. He started the next seven games, winning two. Sanders posted 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
He didn’t exactly shine, but Sanders showed promise (even getting a Pro Bowl call). However, the Browns haven’t committed to a starting quarterback for 2026, leaving the door open for many options. Deshaun Watson could see some playing time, too, as nothing is set for the AFC North team.
Jimmy Garoppolo Could Replace Shedeur Sanders In 2026

A two-time Super Bowl champion could find his way to Cleveland this offseason. Amid uncertainty surrounding Shedeur Sanders, Jimmy Garoppolo could join the Browns. Browns insider Zac Jackson of The Athletic envisions Garoppolo joining the team if Nate Scheelhaase becomes Kevin Stefanski’s replacement.
“Over the years, the Browns have had four or five chances to pursue Jimmy Garoppolo, but they’ve never done so,” Jackson wrote. “If Scheelhaase becomes the new head coach, there’s a natural link. His two seasons of NFL coaching experience were spent with Garoppolo, who was the Rams’ primary backup.”
Jimmy G signed a one-year, $3.05 million deal with the Los Angeles Rams for 2025. He worked with Scheelhaase in the NFC West franchise, which lost the conference championship game to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
This wouldn’t be the long-term answer for Cleveland, but it could give them time to either wait for Shedeur Sanders or draft another promising quarterback in the next one or two years.
