More details have emerged on the Baltimore Ravens’ handling of the nixed Maxx Crosby trade, and it’s certainly a bad look for the organization.

Last Friday, the Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders reached an early agreement on a blockbuster trade that would send Maxx Crosby to Baltimore. In return, the Raiders would receive two first-round picks.

But on Tuesday night, the Ravens stunned the NFL by backing out of the Maxx Crosby trade before it could become official this afternoon. The AFC North club made the decision after he failed a physical.

Baltimore signed star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson to a four-year deal worth $112 million. Apparently, negotiations with Hendrickson were going on while Crosby was in the Ravens’ team facility.

During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show”, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that Crosby spent eight years in Baltimore’s facility to meet his future teammates. Crosby was then called into the office of GM Eric DeCosta, who told him they were nixing the trade because of injury concerns:

“I can tell you the Ravens spoke to Trey Hendrickson yesterday, while Max Crosby was in the building. That tells you that they were aware that something was going on…Crosby was there, not knowing that he was a dead man walking.”

It makes the Ravens look even worse. It’s no wonder that rival GMs are reportedly furious with how they handled this.

Raiders Are Expected To Keep Maxx Crosby

During her appearance on Eisen’s program, Russini added that she expects the Raiders to keep Crosby. Indeed, it’s been a wild five days.

The Raiders have been busy in the early stages of free agency, signing linebackers Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker, edge rusher Kwity Paye, center Tyler Linderbaum and wide receiver Jalen Nailor.

Vegas will also take Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza with the top pick in this year’s draft. Pair him with rookie head coach Klint Kubiak, and there’s already good reason for long-term optimism in Baltimore.

Now, we wait and see if Crosby stays, or if the Raiders actually decide to trade him. Again.
