NFL fans are getting worried about new Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, after his concerning comments in Tuesday’s press conference.
After the Miami Dolphins released Tua Tagovailoa, he signed a one-year deal with the Falcons for the veteran’s minimum ($1.3 million). The Falcons will hold an open QB competition between Tagovailoa and 2024 first-round pick Michael Penix Jr.
During Tuesday’s press conference, Tagovailoa acknowledged that his 2025 season wasn’t up to his regular standards. Tagovailoa also made an interesting comment about stuff that was “going on” with his teammates in Miami, via Maria Martin of NBC Atlanta:
“Yeah I don’t want to get too much in depth with things that were going on. More so in terms of players to coaches than it was players to players, but it was unique in a sense. It was unique…In a lot of ways.”
Former Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa met with Atlanta media today (zoom). He wouldn’t elaborate on issues last season in Miami but made clear he didn’t play to standard after contract:
“I’ve just got to play better football. There’s no way to sugarcoat that.”

Tua Tagovailoa signed a four-year extension worth $212.4 million in the 2024 offseason. But after a disastrous 2025 season, the Dolphins bit the bullet and decided to take on $99.2 million in dead money.
In his final season with the Dolphins, Tagovailoa went 6-8 with 2,660 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, per Football Reference.
Falcons Could Definitely Help Tua Tagovailoa Revive His Career

Tagovailoa has to beat out Michael Penix Jr. for the QB competition. If he does that? All of the pieces will be in place for the 2020 first-round pick to enjoy a career renaissance like Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold.
The Falcons own one of the league’s best offensive lines, led by Jake Matthews, Chris Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary. Bijan Robinson is arguably the best running back in the league. And Kyle Pitts and Drake London are a potent pass-catching tandem.
Throw in two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski, and everything is in order for Tagovailoa to emerge as a true franchise QB. It didn’t happen in Miami, but if he gets the opportunity in Atlanta? No excuses.
