Legendary rapper and businessman Jay-Z opened up on one of the most infamous rumors about the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The rapper selected Puerto Rican Bad Bunny to headline Super Bowl 60 Halftime Show, which drew a lot of criticism from the most conservative part of American society.

Bad Bunny brought a message of peace, love and unity. Turning Point USA announced an alternative to his show, which divided NFL fans even more.

Before this year’s controversy, Jay-Z and another big artist were involved in a bigger one. Kendrick Lamar headlined Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show amid a lopsided beef against Canadian rapper Drake. Many thought Jay-Z picked Lamar as a shot at Drake, but he strongly denies that.

During an interview with GQ, the rapper denied he took sides in the beef between Lamar and Drake. Instead, he went with the hottest artist at that moment.

“I chose the guy that was having a monster year. I think it was the right choice,” Jay-Z said. “It wasn’t in some sort of alliance to a battle. What I care about them two guys battling? What’s that got to do with me? Have at it. Have fun.

“They drag everybody in it, like everyone’s part of this conspiracy to undermine Drake, I guess. But, it’s like, what the (expletive)? Like what?!? I’m (expletive) Jay-Z! All due respect to them. I’m (expletive) Hov. Respectfully, for what?!”

Even so, Lamar didn’t miss the chance to diss Drake during his performance, singing “Not Like Us,” a brutal diss track against the “Hotline Bling” rapper. It’s been one year since that moment and the topic isn’t dead.
