The Philadelphia Eagles’ social media team embarrassed themselves on Thursday. They tried to defend Jalen Hurts from a recent wave of criticism. An ESPN report about the Super Bowl 59 MVP raised plenty of eyebrows around the league.

Jeremy Fowler and Tim McManus reported that people within the franchise believe that Hurts played a role in last season’s offensive struggles.

“He has pushed back on changes that would diversify the scheme, sources said, including when it comes to him going under center more,” McManus and Fowler wrote.

“He has shown a reluctance to let it rip at times, particularly against zone coverage. He diverts from the game plan and changes playcalls to what some feel is an excessive degree. His strong preferences, coupled with the coaches’ efforts to play to his strengths, which include his deep-ball accuracy and throws to the perimeter, limit the breadth to which the offense can expand — or at least that’s the way it has gone in the past.”

The report prompted a strong response from the team’s social media department. They shared a video of Hurts throwing a deep pass to DeVonta Smith against the Dallas Cowboys with a simple caption: “Just gonna leave this here.”

Fans didn’t appreciate the post and called them out for posting a defective throw from a game the Eagles lost.

“Crazy yall gave up 24 unanswered points and ended up losing that game,” one fan said.

“Admin posting an inaccurate deep ball when Smith had 3 steps on a defender is a bad look bad timing too considering the articles that came out recently,” another fan said.

“Why would y’all post this? An under throw in a game you lost,” a third fan added.

“didn’t you lose this game,” another fan questioned.

The Eagles made a few changes this offseason, but the quarterback might be their biggest issue now.
