Super Bowl 59 broke viewership records when Kendrick Lamar performed at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The rapper, fresh off a big win against Drake in an intense feud, performed in front of millions of people.
One of the people who joined Lamar on the stage faces time in jail, over a year since he went off script to send a political message.
Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu ran across the field with a flag that read “Sudan and Free Gaza.”

On Monday, authorities detained Nantambu over his actions in New Orleans.
“Though Nantambu was authorized to be on the field, he deviated from his assigned role when he held up the flag while standing on the roof of a car used as a prop in the performance, according to the Louisiana State Police,” the Associated Press reported. “He then jumped off the stage and started running. Security and law enforcement personnel ran after him, and he refused to comply with their commands to stop, the state police said. Nantambu surrendered to authorities after an arrest warrant was obtained, the agency said.”
Authorities found him guilty of resisting an officer and booked him into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
“We appreciate the chief judge’s careful consideration of the evidence and the decision to hold this individual accountable for resisting law enforcement officers who work every day to protect our communities,” Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said.
He will know his fate on June 1. The performer could face up to six months in prison.
