Patrick Mahomes could be closer to a miraculous return to the field. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback suffered his first major career injury in Week 15 of the 2025 NFL season, when he sustained an ACL injury that ended his campaign.

While many athletes have to wait an extended period before they can even start practicing again, Mahomes set an ambitious deadline for his return: Week 1 of the 2026 season.

Albeit unrealistic for others, Mahomes and Co. were convinced he could do it. His latest activity suggests that we could see him back sooner than expected.

The Chiefs’ social media team shared a video of the quarterback at OTAs. Many would have imagined that he’d be taking notes or studying on the sideline, but Mahomes started throwing again.

Earlier this month, Chiefs coach Andy Reid provided a positive update on Mahomes’ rehab.

“He’s doing great right now and that’s kinda how you gotta go about this,” Reid said. “Who made the schedule? Everybody’s different, let’s just take it day by day. Nobody is spending more time than he is rehabbing, he spends seven hours here going through it. He hasn’t missed a day and he wants more, all the things that are Patrick Mahomes. Let’s see where we are at as we go forward as we get a little bit closer to the game.”

Some say that returning from an ACL is hard for most athletes. However, as he’s shown, Mahomes is from a different class.
