Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales discussed a recent diagnosis that put him and his doctors on alert. The third-year coach led the team to a dramatic NFC South title at the end of the 2025 season.

He helped Bryce Young establish himself as a starter in the league while making the Panthers a dangerous squad. They were close to eliminating the overpowered Los Angeles Rams in the wild-card round, led by Canales.

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator has done a solid job with the Panthers, making them an intriguing squad.

While the team prepares for the 2026 season, Canales received a concerning diagnosis. Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, he explained why he wore a Band-Aid on his nose Tuesday at minicamp.

Canales said he underwent a procedure to remove a small spot of basal cell carcinoma recently.

“It’s a good reminder not to take these things for granted,” Canales said. “It was a basal cell type of skin cancer in a small spot, and they were able to get it off. So I’m really appreciative.”

The Panthers have renewed expectations ahead of the 2026 season. Fortunately, this situation won’t affect their coach’s plans.
