Sam Darnold Delivers Another Brutal Blow To The Patriots Months After Super Bowl Win

Sam Darnold is still thinking about Super Bowl LX, but not because of the result.
The Seattle Seahawks quarterback recently reflected on the biggest victory of his career and admitted he walked away disappointed with his own performance despite leading Seattle to a 29-13 win over the New England Patriots.
Speaking on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Darnold said he expected much more from himself on football’s biggest stage.
“I didn’t play great in the Super Bowl,” he said. “I missed way too many throws. We still won, our defense balled out, and I didn’t turn the ball over, which helped. But dude, to win the Super Bowl that way, I was kind of bummed. I want to freaking score like 40 points, you know what I mean? I want to go out there and ball out, and it’s just, ‘Dang, I didn’t play my best football in the Super Bowl? That sucks.’”
Although Darnold never directly criticized New England, his comments suggested he believed the Seahawks were capable of putting together a far more dominant offensive performance. That sentiment is unlikely to sit well with Patriots fans, who already endured a frustrating night watching Seattle’s defense overwhelm Drake Maye and New England’s offense.
The victory completed one of the NFL’s most remarkable comeback stories, as Darnold went from being labeled a draft bust to becoming a Super Bowl-winning quarterback in his first season with Seattle.
Sam Darnold Wanted More From Himself Against Patriots

Statistically, Darnold finished the championship game with 202 passing yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. While those numbers helped deliver a Lombardi Trophy, they fell short of the quarterback’s own expectations.
Instead, Seattle’s defense stole the show by limiting the Patriots to just 13 points while forcing Drake Maye into one of his toughest performances of the season. Kenneth Walker III earned Super Bowl MVP honors after rushing for 135 yards and powering the Seahawks’ offense.
Darnold explained that winning wasn’t enough for him. He wanted to leave no doubt about who controlled the game. Those comments have fueled fresh discussion around how confident Seattle felt entering the matchup and whether the Seahawks viewed New England as an overmatched opponent before kickoff.
Sam Darnold Looks Ahead After Championship Season

Despite his personal disappointment, Darnold’s first season in Seattle exceeded nearly every expectation.
He guided the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title, silenced critics who questioned his career trajectory, and positioned himself as one of the NFL’s biggest redemption stories heading into the new season.
Now, expectations have changed.
Instead of proving he belongs among the league’s top quarterbacks, Sam Darnold will spend the 2026 season trying to prove his championship run was only the beginning.
