Jeremiyah Love hasn’t practiced in over two weeks. A new clip from Tempe is giving Cardinals fans a reason to pay closer attention.
FOX10 Phoenix shared footage Monday showing Love jogging through drills at practice, still working outside the team’s full-participation group.
Head coach Mike LaFleur offered a simple assessment afterward, saying Love is “progressing really well.”
That description alone wouldn’t normally generate much buzz. Given the stakes riding on Love’s ankle, though, every small movement is getting scrutinized.
Analysts Cautioned Against Reading Too Much Into It
Fans and analysts picked apart the footage frame by frame.
Physical therapist and injury tracker Jeff Mueller broke it down in detail.
“Jeremiyah Love moving in non-linear subtle patterns, good to see he’s comfortable with at least that,” the post read. It continued with a note of caution. “Looks like he’s simply moving from one spot on the field to another, this isn’t a specific drill. Need to see video of him at full speed to feel good re: Week 1.”
A separate account, ProFootballDoc, echoed that same hesitation.
“Good progress from last video,” the post read, “but looks more like me jogging than an NFL running back right now. Week 1 seems dubious, but no short-term IR.”
Love suffered a high-ankle sprain during his preseason debut against the Raiders on Aug. 13, an injury that came after an encouraging first outing.
He carried the ball 11 times for 58 yards and caught three passes for 14 yards before exiting.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter later reported the sprain would likely keep him out for the rest of the preseason, though the team remained hopeful he could return for the regular-season opener against the Chargers on Sept. 13.
The Cardinals Invested Heavily In Love This Offseason
Arizona selected Love third overall in April’s draft, betting big on a running back class that raised eyebrows given the team’s other roster needs.
He signed a four-year, $53 million fully guaranteed deal, the largest contract ever given to a rookie running back. Love arrived in Arizona after a decorated Notre Dame career that included the 2025 Doak Walker Award and a third-place Heisman finish, following a junior season with 1,372 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.
Love has been generating headlines beyond his recovery timeline as well, including scrutiny over a $300,000 Lamborghini gift to his girlfriend shortly after signing his rookie contract.
For now, his health remains the more pressing storyline. With less than two weeks before Arizona’s opener, the Cardinals still don’t know whether their franchise running back will be ready to suit up.
