Trey McBride made it clear that contract talks with the Arizona Cardinals did not go smoothly. The star tight end revealed that the team first offered him about $12 million per year before both sides finally agreed to a four-year, $76 million extension.

Speaking on Bussin’ With the Boys, McBride admitted he even considered testing free agency before Arizona improved its offer, whether he could have ended up with another team. Still, based on where things stand now, McBride appears happy in Arizona and does not sound like a player looking for a trade.

“Maybe I go somewhere else,” McBride said. “Maybe I play my last year and explore my options, and then, finally, they wanted to get it done.”

McBride had every reason to believe he would draw huge interest on the open market. He put together a huge 2025 season with 126 catches for 1,239 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Cardinals later raised their offer to $64 million, or $16 million per season. McBride admitted he wanted to accept it right away.

“I was like, ‘(Expletive), dude. 64 (million). Oh my god. I could buy so many Zips wings,’” McBride said. “I’m like, just everything that’s going through my mind, I’m like, ‘Dude, let’s lock it in.’”

His agent suggested him to wait. That decision paid off. Arizona increased its offer again and made McBride the highest-paid tight end in the NFL at the time, although George Kittle has since surpassed that mark.

McBride also shared an honest view about the Cardinals’ fan base. He said Arizona’s population makes it harder for the team to build a strong home crowd because many residents moved from other states.

“It’s like, living in Arizona, everyone, no one’s from Arizona,” McBride said. “Everyone comes and has moved in from another state. So, they’re all fans of their own teams.”

He hopes that changes soon.

“So, it’s a tough deal,” McBride said. “Hopefully, we start winning some games and we can bring some of those fans back.”

McBride also called Seattle the NFL’s toughest road environment. He praised the Seahawks’ crowd and said Lumen Field creates a hostile atmosphere every time the Cardinals visit.

Even though he was frustrated during contract talks and made comments about the fans, nothing suggests McBride wants out of Arizona. His new contract keeps him with the Cardinals, and he is happy there.
