Cam Skattebo gave New York Giants fans a scare after attempting a backflip at Fanatics Fest over the weekend.

The second-year running back, who spent months recovering from season-ending fibula and ankle surgeries, stumbled on the landing before quickly getting back to his feet. The clip went viral, prompting questions about how new head coach John Harbaugh would respond.

Harbaugh finally addressed the moment during an appearance on the ‘Bleav in Giants’ podcast.

“My reaction was — I haven’t talked to him yet, I’m going to talk to him I’m sure. My reaction was this: Dude, at least stick it. I mean, land the thing if you’re going to do it, you know?” Harbaugh said, laughing.

Harbaugh shifted from joking about the backflip to praising Skattebo’s work ethic.

“But Skat’s going to be ready to go. He’s been working super hard. He has really been training like crazy. And his mind is on camp. He’s healthy, he’s ready to roll, and I can’t wait to see him out there at practice.”

Skattebo has since reassured everyone that he did not sustain any injuries during the stunt. He explained that the WWE-style flooring at Fanatics Fest launched him higher than expected, causing the awkward landing. He also promised he would not hurt himself before the season.

The backflip drew extra attention because Skattebo missed much of his rookie season after suffering a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula and ligament damage that required surgery. He totaled 617 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns in eight games prior to the injury.

Harbaugh’s comments suggested he viewed the incident as more humorous than alarming.

The Giants expect Skattebo to participate early in training camp as he continues his rehab from last year’s season-ending injury. Rookies are due to report this Thursday, while veterans are scheduled to report on July 28.
