Diego Pavia’s NFL Future Just Went From Bad To Worse

Former Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia has suffered another setback in his pursuit of an NFL career after clearing waivers.

The news comes just days after the Baltimore Ravens released Pavia. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, all 31 other teams passed on the opportunity to claim the rookie quarterback, making him an unrestricted free agent once again.

Pavia signed with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 NFL Draft. His release came after the Ravens added veteran center Ethan Pocic to their roster.

Before training camp, Ravens assistant coach Jesse Minter praised Pavia’s work ethic despite acknowledging he had experienced some growing pains.

“[Pavia has] had some experiences that are learning experiences that he could learn from and be better from,” Minter said, per ESPN.

Minter also said people inside Vanderbilt consistently spoke highly of Pavia’s commitment and daily preparation.

Diego Pavia Still Has Multiple Paths To Continue His Football Career

Pavia entered the NFL after a remarkable final college season. He threw for 3,539 yards, rushed for another 862 and accounted for 39 total touchdowns. Despite those numbers, he became the first Heisman Trophy finalist in more than a decade to go undrafted.

His NFL opportunity may not be over. Teams often add quarterbacks throughout the season because of injuries and roster changes. Baltimore also featured a crowded quarterback room led by Lamar Jackson, leaving limited opportunities for developmental players.

If another NFL contract does not materialize immediately, the Canadian Football League could offer another avenue. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers reportedly hold Pavia’s negotiation rights, giving them the opportunity to pursue him if he decides to head north.

For now, Pavia remains available as a free agent while waiting for his next opportunity.
