A Houston Texans training camp giveaway turned into a viral moment. Fans raced for a signed hat early Saturday morning. One adult ended up with the prize after a close battle that involved a young boy.

The Houston Texans posted video of the scramble. The clip shows several people running toward the hat on the ground. An adult man reaches it first while a kid in a red jersey is right beside him.

The man then celebrates with the signed cap. He poses and shows it off. Social media quickly focused on the interaction with the child. Many called the move aggressive. The fan later identified himself as Lamar Walker. He posted a detailed apology in the comments of the team’s post.

Walker said everything moved too fast. He claimed he did not realize a kid was reaching for the same hat until after the fact.

“I want to sincerely apologize to the young fan,” Walker wrote. “Everything happened so fast, and I honestly didn’t realize I was reaching for the hat with a kid until afterward, and yes I definitely should’ve been more aware.”

He added that he asked whether he should return the hat. Staff told him to keep it because it was a race. Walker still wants to fix the situation.

He plans to work with event staff to locate the boy and his family. Walker offered a brand-new unworn hat plus four tickets to a future training camp session.

“How disgusting is it when an adult robs it from a kid!?! What a loser and if he was my employee, I’d probably fire him,” another said.
