The Atlanta Falcons watched one of their brightest young defenders leave the field on a cart Tuesday after a frightening scene at training camp.
First-round linebacker and edge rusher Jalon Walker suffered an apparent lower-leg injury during practice. The team quickly surrounded the former Georgia standout before medical personnel helped him onto a cart.
“Falcons pass-rusher Jalon Walker, their 1st-round pick last year, suffered an apparent lower-leg injury and was carted off the practice field today,” Ari Meirov reported on Tuesday afternoon.
According to multiple reports from Falcons camp, practice ended immediately after the injury.
Atlanta has not announced the severity of the injury or provided a timetable for further evaluation.

Walker entered the 2026 season expected to play a major role in Atlanta’s defense after an encouraging rookie campaign.
The Falcons selected him with the 15th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft following an All-American career at Georgia. His versatility allowed Atlanta to use him both off the edge and as an off-ball linebacker throughout his first NFL season.
The timing makes the injury especially concerning.
Atlanta spent the offseason building around a young defense that features Walker as one of its cornerstone players. Losing him for any significant period would deal an early blow to a unit expected to take another step forward this season.
James Pearce Jr., who was also selected in the first round last year, could also miss significant time.
The pass rusher could potentially be suspended following an arrest in February. Pearce was involved in an incident with his former girlfriend, Rickea Jackson, that led to three felony charges.
The organization is expected to conduct additional testing before determining Walker’s status.
For now, the Falcons can only hope the scene looked worse than the diagnosis ultimately proves.
