NFL personnel just ranked the league’s top quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes came out on top once again.
Mike Sando of The Athletic surveyed 50 coaches, executives, and scouts. The group included general managers, coordinators, and head coaches.
Mahomes secured the No. 1 spot. Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford tied for second place.
One defensive coordinator praised Allen’s physical talent, praising him and Stafford.
“Josh Allen is unreal,” a defensive coordinator said, via Sando. “He and Stafford are the two guys I would not want to play the most. Allen’s ability to make plays, be hard to tackle, put the team on his shoulders — when it’s fourth down, he is going to win.”

The survey reflects ongoing respect for Mahomes. His playoff success and three Super Bowl titles still carry heavy weight.
Allen continues to close the gap in the eyes of many evaluators. Several voters highlighted his ability to create plays under pressure.
One coach criticized a late-game decision by Allen in last season’s playoffs. He pointed to a fumble that shifted momentum against Denver.
“Josh Allen, with under 30 seconds left in the half, runs for a meaningless 12-yard gain and fumbles and gives up a field goal in a playoff game to go behind two scores against Denver,” this coach said. “Until he quits doing that, you can’t rank him as the top quarterback. That is one of the worst plays I’ve ever seen. Cost them the game.”
Still, most evaluators focused on Allen’s overall impact. A general manager said Allen keeps the Bills competitive almost single-handedly.

The debate between Mahomes and Allen remains one of the loudest in the league. Head-to-head playoff results favor Mahomes so far. Allen has yet to beat the Chiefs star in the postseason. Mahomes owns four wins in those matchups.
Some evaluators believe the supporting casts explain much of the difference. Kansas City has maintained stronger talent and coaching stability.
Others argue Allen’s style may wear him down over time. One GM expressed concern about the physical toll of his playing approach.
The full rankings place both quarterbacks clearly above the rest of the field. Stafford’s inclusion in the top three shows strong respect for his recent play. Voters across the league continue to view Mahomes as the standard. Allen remains the closest challenger heading into the new season.
