Stefon Diggs Reportedly Rejected Offers From 3 Other NFL Teams Before Signing With Commanders, Including One Major Contender

Stefon Diggs had plenty of choices on the table before signing with the Washington Commanders this week.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, several teams kicked the tires on the veteran wideout. Schefter reported that the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, and Las Vegas Raiders all made a push for Diggs before he ultimately took a one-year deal with Washington.

The interest made total sense for everyone involved. Kansas City is still hunting for reliable wide receiver play, Miami needs a new weapon after parting ways with Tyreek Hill, and Las Vegas wanted an experienced target to help guide rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

Even with those options lined up, Diggs decided to head in a different direction.

Washington Was Always The Preferred Destination

ESPN’s John Keim reported that Diggs wanted to play for the Commanders. The connection goes back years. Diggs grew up in suburban Washington and played college football at Maryland.

“Diggs strengthens a receiver group whose depth had improved from 2025 but was still facing questions at the top, aside from McLaurin,” Keim wrote.

He added, “Diggs, who was born in suburban Washington and played collegiately at Maryland, had made his desire to play for the Commanders known.”

Diggs also visited Maryland’s first fall practice on Wednesday. The university shared a video message from the former Terrapins star on Instagram.

The move gives Washington another proven weapon. Terry McLaurin is still the No. 1 target, but Diggs brings another reliable pair of hands to the offense. His presence should be a huge boost for quarterback Jayden Daniels, who now gets another experienced player in the passing game.

Washington is hoping Diggs can help turn things around after a brutal 2025 season. The Commanders made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game following a 12-5 run in 2024, but injuries affected their roster last year, causing them to slide to a 5-12 record.

Even so, Diggs proved he still has plenty left in the tank. He put up 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns across 17 games, then added another 14 receptions for 110 yards and a score during his playoff run with the New England Patriots.

Now, after turning down interest from three other NFL teams, Diggs heads home and joins a Commanders team that believes it can return to contention.
