Former Cardinals GM Threatens Lawsuit Against DeAndre Hopkins After Being Accused Of “Contaminating His Drug Test”

DeAndre Hopkins has reignited a controversy that dates back four years. Steve Keim, his former general manager in Arizona, has now retained legal counsel. Hopkins accused Keim of contaminating the drug test that led to his six-game suspension in 2022.
That suspension reportedly cost Hopkins millions in guaranteed money.
DeAndre Hopkins’ Accusation Against Keim
On August 10, Hopkins posted a pointed message calling out his old GM by name.
“I got set up when I played for his team and lost 13 million,” he wrote. “Skeme Slime was my GM, contaminated drug test go figure how that happened.”
He deleted the post soon after, but screenshots spread fast across NFL circles.
Hopkins never explained exactly how he believes Keim tampered with the results. The accusation surfaced right after Keim was linked to an unrelated financial scheme.
It didn’t take long for Keim to respond once the allegation went viral. He shared a formal statement on Instagram alongside attorney “beardlawyer.” He flatly denied any role in the failed test or the suspension that followed.
“That accusation is completely false,” Keim wrote. “I did not contaminate, alter, manipulate, interfere with, or cause anyone else to interfere with DeAndre’s drug test or its results.”
He also shot down the notion that he ever tried to “set him up” for a suspension.
Keim didn’t stop at a simple denial, either. He framed the accusation as a direct attack on his career and character.
“It attacks my integrity, my professional reputation, and the work I spent decades building in the National Football League,” he said.

What’s Next for DeAndre Hopkins and Keim
Keim has hired attorney Raees Mohamed to handle the fallout.
“I have retained counsel… to aggressively address this matter and to protect my reputation and legal rights,” Keim said.
Evidence is reportedly being gathered as the case moves forward.
Hopkins, meanwhile, recently wrapped up a brief stint with the Patriots as an assistant coach. His last playing stop came with the Ravens, where his production noticeably dipped from his career norms. Whether this dispute ever reaches a courtroom remains unclear.
For now, two men who once shared a locker room stand on opposite sides of a legal standoff. According to Pro Football Talk, civil litigation appears to be on the table. Both sides have made their positions clear, and neither looks ready to back down.
