Ricky Pearsall’s season ended before it began. And now, his teammate has thoughts on how he’s spending his time off.

Pearsall underwent surgery on Aug. 14 to repair a lingering PCL injury in his right knee. The setback ruled him out for the entire 2026 campaign.

The 49ers placed him on season-ending injured reserve days earlier, closing the book on what was supposed to be a breakout year for the 25-year-old receiver.

It appears he remains in good spirits. Footage shows Pearsall dancing on his crutches, just days removed from his surgery, moving around a hotel room while still wearing a knee brace.

Deebo Samuel didn’t hold back once he saw it, saying exactly what everyone else was thinking. The veteran very rudely asked Pearsall to “sit your a** down” in a hilarious DM.

Pearsall’s Injury History Made This Setback Especially Frustrating

Pearsall’s latest surgery continues a pattern that’s followed him since he entered the league. He aggravated the same PCL injury that limited him to nine games during the 2025 season, an issue that first flared up during a Week 4 loss to the Jaguars.

The swelling never fully went away, and it resurfaced again during training camp this summer, ultimately forcing general manager John Lynch to announce Pearsall would miss the entire 2026 season just as camp got underway.

Pearsall addressed the setback himself in a social media post shortly after going under the knife.

“Nothing to be disappointed about,” he wrote. “No regrets. No what-ifs. Just peace in the midst of yet another trial, knowing I did everything I could.”

He also opened up about how hard the news hit him.

“All I’ve ever known is football,” Pearsall added. “I’ve never missed a game because of a football injury in my entire career.”

Samuel’s Return To San Francisco Adds Extra Context

Samuel’s reaction carries a bit more weight, given his own path back to the 49ers.

San Francisco re-signed him to a one-year deal earlier this offseason, reuniting him with the franchise that drafted him back in 2019 after a one-year stint with Washington.

His return happened to land in the same week Pearsall’s season ended, positioning Samuel as an important depth piece while Pearsall works through a recovery timeline of six to 12 months.

Pearsall’s recovery road isn’t new territory for him, either. He’s dealt with injuries dating back to his rookie season, when he was shot during an attempted robbery near San Francisco’s Union Square just weeks before his NFL debut.

Between that ordeal and a string of shoulder and knee issues since, Pearsall has yet to complete a full, healthy NFL season.
