Pat McAfee continues expanding his presence across ESPN platforms. The network added him to Monday Night Countdown as a full analyst. He joins Scott Van Pelt, Jason Kelce, Marcus Spears and Jason McCourty.

McAfee already hosts his daily show and appears on College GameDay every Saturday. This latest assignment puts him on air nearly every day of the football week. Fans quickly voiced frustration over the constant exposure.

The former Indianapolis Colts punter took to X to celebrate the big news.

“Tis an honor to be a part of MNF in any capacity. I hope I can be an asset as we start the journey to The Biggest Super Bowl of all time in LA on ESPN and ABC. College GameDay on Saturday.. Monday Night Countdown on Monday.. I’m the luckiest man on Earth. Football has been so good to me and my family.. I will try my best to continue to give back to it,” McAfee wrote.

“We started this show in the basement.. no agent.. no publicist.. no manager.. no PR firm.. just a love of sport and it’s people. So thankful for it all and for all of you who have followed along with this absurdly dumb life. The Fall Football Tour starts in Baton Rouge on September 5th.. Let’s GOOOOO.”

NFL fans blasted the move almost immediately. Several called the network “Pat McESPN” in online reactions. Others said they were tired of seeing the same faces dominate coverage.

The criticism mirrors earlier complaints about overexposure. Viewers previously targeted similar patterns with other ESPN regulars. One recent example involved a truncated tribute to network founder Bill Rasmussen that switched abruptly to McAfee’s show.

The new role positions him for major involvement in ESPN’s upcoming Super Bowl coverage. Monday Night Football remains the network’s flagship NFL property. Adding McAfee strengthens the pregame desk with former player energy, but fans believe it is too much.

ESPN clearly views McAfee as a high-impact personality. His daily show maintains strong audience numbers across platforms. College GameDay continues posting strong ratings with him as a central figure.

McAfee started his media career independently before the ESPN partnership. He often reminds audiences of that basement-to-network journey. The latest assignment continues the rapid rise that polarizes sports media watchers.

Whether the expanded schedule wins over skeptics remains to be seen. For now, McAfee stays locked into ESPN’s biggest stages. Football season will tell how this goes.
