New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas put on a show against Cooper DeJean. The veteran won all three 1-on-1 reps during joint practice with the Eagles. Video of the matchups spread quickly across X.

Douglas used sharp cuts and sudden acceleration. DeJean, a first-team All-Pro in the slot last season, struggled to stay with him. One clip showed DeJean completely losing contact mid-route.

The moment stood out because DeJean rarely gets beaten like that. Fans on both sides reacted strongly to the footage. The crowd watching the matchup also went into a frenzy.

One observer noted the lack of pass rush in these drills. “Would’ve been sacked before that route even developed 🤣,” one said.

Another account simply posted a photo of DeJean with the caption highlighting the result.

Some tried to dismiss the play and mock Douglas’ route running abilities.

“stupid reps, means nothing,” one wrote.

“It took 5 seconds for this play to develop,” one added.

“Route took 3.2-3.3 seconds from first movement to break. For reference, Mayes average TTT was 2.78 last year,” one commented.

Douglas has spent his career as an undersized slot option. At 5-foot-8, he relies on quickness and precise route running. These reps against a top defensive back reinforced his value in camp.

The joint practice gave Douglas a chance to face high-level competition. He has worked with the starters throughout training camp. Last season brought reduced snaps, but early returns this year look sharper.

Eagles fans pointed to the nature of 1-on-1 drills. Receivers often hold the advantage without a pass rush or safety help. Still, the visual of DeJean disappearing downfield stood out.

Douglas may have forced the Patriots coaching staff to keep him in the mix. His ability to create separation against elite coverage remains a useful weapon. The clips from practice only strengthened that case.
