The Detroit Lions revealed their new Rivalries uniforms on Tuesday, but fans couldn’t help comparing them to another NFL team right away.

Detroit is set to rock the all-white “Defend the Den” look in Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings, with stars Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs modeling the gear for the rollout.

The design features the team’s signature Honolulu blue paired with black stripes along the shoulders and pants. The jersey sports black numbers outlined in blue, with “Detroit” stitched across the chest.

However, the look immediately created unrest, with tons of fans pointing out that it looks almost identical to the Carolina Panthers’ jersey.

Fans Call Out The Lions For Copying

One X account, The Detroit Times, took the comparison a step further. The account called the Lions the “Detroit Panthers” after seeing the new uniforms.

Another account, Honolulu Blues, also pointed out the similarities. The account criticized the design and questioned the Lions’ approach to the new rivalry uniforms.

The Lions did not simply copy every detail from Carolina. Still, the similar white base, blue accents, and black elements made the comparison hard for fans to ignore.

Detroit will get its first chance to show off the uniforms in a game against Minnesota in early November. The Vikings also have a rivalry uniform and will wear it when they host Detroit in a primetime game later this season.

The NFL introduced eight new rivalry uniforms this year. The league paired the NFC North and AFC South with the new designs.

Detroit now faces a few weeks of debate over its new look before players take the field in it. Fans will ultimately decide whether the uniforms deserve the criticism or look better once the Lions wear them in a real game.

For now, though, some fans have already given Detroit a new nickname.
