The NFL roster deadline came and went. Due to trimming a talented pool of players down to 53, some were cut, while some surprising names made it. For others, they were dealt to another team. That’s what happened to a Chargers defensive tackle and cornerback during this hectic deadline.

Truth be told, not everybody will make the final 53. But to be traded to another franchise is much better than getting cut or waived. At least a player who suffers that fate can still find an avenue to play on the field.

Chargers Deal DT TeRah Edwards To Panthers

With the Chargers facing a tough decision on their defensive tackle rotation, they made the final call to trade TeRah Edwards to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick.

“The #Panthers are trading for #Chargers DT TeRah Edwards, sources say. One last one before the buzzer,” Ian Rapoport wrote on X.

The Chargers are predicted as one of the NFL’s best teams next season. But despite a strong showing in the preseason, Edwards faces a difficult time getting on the field.

After Sunday’s deadline, the Los Angeles retained Teair Tart, Dalvin Tomlinson, Justin Eboigbe, Jamaree Caldwell, and Nick Barrett on its initial 53 roster.

The undrafted Edwards might get his chance with the Panthers.

Chargers Also Made Another Trade On Sunday

TeRah Edwards was not the only Charger who would play for another team next season. According to reports, the team also dealt away undrafted cornerback Avery Smith to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick. 

Fans are already lauding the Chargers for their moves.

“Turning two players who may not have made the final roster into two future draft picks seems like pretty good roster management,” one fan said.

Another one commented, “Two moves to add more draft capital. The Chargers are clearly thinking about the future. Sixth-round picks can still turn into valuable depth.”

No time to celebrate, though, at least for Chargers fans. They are down a wide receiver after a brutal on-field injury in the team’s final preseason game.
