Cam Skattebo did not treat Aaron Donald like a museum piece this week. The New York Giants running back sat with SNY and talked about Monday Night Football like it was just another short-yardage play.
Donald came out of retirement in August and sat out Los Angeles’ opener in Australia. He may debut against New York at SoFi Stadium. Skattebo already has the picture in his head.
“If it is his first game, he’s got to be ready for it, just like we do,” Skattebo said. “I’m excited to play against him. If I have to meet him in the hole on 3rd and 1, so be it. I gotta get one yard.”

He praised Donald as one of the best to ever do it and still refused to make the matchup bigger than one yard. He noted Donald has had a couple of years off and has not practiced or played a full slate. Then he put the burden back on the Rams star the same way he puts it on himself.
Skattebo showed off his toughness on Sunday night against Dallas. He ran for 81 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, then flipped in the end zone after a long rehab. Cameras also caught the bloodied-face shot that Giants fans now treat like a trading card.

A year ago, he almost walked away. The ankle dislocation, open tibia fracture and torn deltoid against Philadelphia ended his rookie year in Week 8. He later said he thought about retiring in the first month of rehab. He is 24, the feature back again, and talking about meeting Donald in the A-gap like it is homework.
John Harbaugh’s Giants used him as the lead back in Week 1. Patrick Ricard now leads him through the first linebacker, which Skattebo said makes him feel safe. Monday is a different kind of body in that hole. Donald is 35 and a three-time Defensive Player of the Year. He practiced in full this week. Sean McVay still has not stamped the debut.
Skattebo also said he plays his best when the lights are on. Last season’s best nights came on Sunday and Thursday windows at MetLife. Now he gets a West Coast prime-time game one week after the Cowboys win.
