Trevor Lawrence put together one of his cleanest days of the season on Sunday. The Jaguars needed every bit of it. Jacksonville routed New England 35-6. Lawrence completed 19 of 29 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns.

One of those scores came on a fingertip grab in the end zone. The catch belonged to Parker Washington, who has quietly turned into one of Lawrence’s most reliable targets this season.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had the opposite kind of afternoon. He fumbled twice and lost one of them. He also threw two interceptions before getting pulled in the fourth quarter. New England has now managed just one touchdown pass and six interceptions through three games this season, a rough start for a team that reached the Super Bowl last season.

Maye’s turnovers proved a major talking point. But there was some criticism for Lawrence, too. The Jags QB had one INT himself, though it wasn’t what drew most of the attention.

Jacksonville was already up big with just under nine minutes left. Lawrence broke off a scramble that had him headed straight for the end zone. He crossed the goal line’s edge, then stopped. Instead of finishing the run himself, he took a knee at the 1-yard line.

“WHAT IS TREVOR LAWRENCE DOING?” one popular X account asked before adding, “Bro HAS to be gambling 😭😭😭.”

Reactions piled up fast once the clip started circulating. Plenty of fans admitted they simply couldn’t make sense of the decision.

“With the introduction of legal sports betting, plays like this where it’s obvious a player isn’t ‘finishing’ the play should result in 15 yard penalties and loss of down,” one fan argued.

“Can someone tell me a logical reason why it makes sense for him to go this? Truly I have no idea. Is there a real football reason?” another asked.

“It’s 8 minutes n some change, I would never understand this. I get it if it’s 2 minutes in some change, but this is so dumb,” a third wrote.

Whatever his reasoning, the Jaguars didn’t need the extra points anyway. Jacksonville cruised to its sixth straight home win, bouncing back nicely from its worst offensive showing in nearly a year the week before.

New England, meanwhile, heads into next week with even more questions surrounding its young quarterback.
