One NFL Ref will not finish today’s game in London.
An injury during the Texans-Jaguars game knocked NFL referee Larry Smith out for the day. For some unknown reason, the league never keeps replacement referees on hand for possible injuries. Because of this oversight, the Texans and Jags must play the rest of this game with one fewer referee on the field.
NFL Ref Carted Off After Non-Contact Slip and Apparent ACL Tear in London Game

During the game, Smith fell backward as he tried catching the game ball from the sideline between plays. As he tried to get up, he quickly realized that something was wrong.
He began to limp before collapsing back to the field. Other refs and medical personnel helped him onto a cart, and he was taken away from the game. Smith raised his cap to fans as he was carted away down one of the tunnels at Wembley.

Hopefully, the veteran NFL ref makes a quick recovery, and the injury isn’t as bad as we all think. He has been in the league for 2 seasons, joining as a rookie in 2025. Before the league, he spent nearly a decade in the Big Ten Conference.
