Troy Aikman had a busy Monday night before, during and after the Dallas Cowboys’ duel against the Philadelphia Eagles. The matchup that carried a lot of hype before the season ended up with plenty of fans asking the league to flex the game.

Aikman added to the rumors about his future before kickoff, after he reportedly had a “very lengthy conversation” with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Last week, the retired quarterback kept the door open for a potential reunion with the Cowboys, as he plans to become a free agent once the 2026 season is over.

“I came in, I was 22 years old. I was his (Jones’) very first draft pick. There’s a lot within that relationship, both from the beginning, when he began as the owner, when I began my NFL career as a quarterback for 12 years of my life, playing for him, and then, even in the years that have followed, you know, we’ve been through a lot.”

Even though everything looked positive for the quarterback and rumors intensified with his conversation with Jones, he made things awkward again with his post-game remarks. Asked whether the Cowboys should feel excited after beating the Eagles, Aikman hit the brakes.

“Eh, not really. Not really,” Aikman told Scott Van Pelt. “And I don’t mean that as a negative… This is a beat-up Philadelphia team. To come in here and win tonight, I mean, let’s not get carried away.”

He has kept things real when it comes to the Cowboys. Aikman previously criticized Jones‘s roster-construction philosophy, and he’s not ready to give in. He could join the front office after Super Bowl 61 and put together a championship-caliber team. Time will tell if Jones refuses to bring him in after these comments.
