The 2026 season for the Baltimore Ravens became a lost cause on Sunday afternoon. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson injured his right thumb on the very first offensive play of the team’s Week 8 game. He had just returned after missing the last three weeks of action.

During Baltimore’s first drive, Jackson attempted a pass. In addition, his right hand collided with the hand of Buffalo Bills outside linebacker Greg Rousseau. Jackson immediately pulled his hand back, looked at his thumb, and left the field. He would go from the blue medical tent to the locker room.

Unfortunately, the news only got worse after the game. Jackson is set to undergo surgery on his right thumb and will be placed on injured reserve. That means he will miss at least four games. Depending on where the team is when he heals up, this injury could ultimately end his season.

To make matters even worse, backup Tyler Huntley would suffer a turf toe in the same game and be removed. Now, the team needs another quarterback.

Ravens Initiate Trade Talks for Tyson Bagent Amid Lamar Jackson Injury

The Baltimore Ravens have reached out to the Chicago Bears to initiate trade talks. The team is looking at backup quarterback Tyson Bagent following a devastating Week 8 injury crisis, according to Sports Illustrated.

“Chicago doesn’t have to trade him,” one NFL GM told them. “They like him … Wonder how hard they squeeze DeCosta?”

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio also mentioned that Bagent would make sense as a trade candidate for the Ravens.

“The Bears have three quarterbacks,” Florio said before Sunday Night Football.

“One of them is Tyson Bagent. Declan Doyle, the Ravens’ offensive coordinator, was the Bears’ offensive coordinator last year. Don’t be surprised if the Ravens reach out. Still nine days left in the trade window.”

Florio then confirmed the Ravens “may explore” a trade for Bagent but that the Bears won’t give him up for cheap.

“The Ravens, we’re told, may explore the possibility of acquiring Bagent,” Florio wrote. “We’re also told that it won’t be cheap to get him.”

Bagent gave Chicago and potential suitors tangible proof of his skill set. Furthermore, he connected on 25 of 34 throws for 268 yards against New York. Despite throwing one interception, his steady hand guided the Bears to a comfortable 23-12 win.

Trading for him could effectively save the season for the Ravens.
