Rumors about Aaron Donald returning to the NFL were already quite interesting, and now a new report from ESPN insider Adam Schefter has added to that.
The former Los Angeles Rams star retired in 2024 after putting together one of the greatest defensive careers in NFL history. During his 10 seasons in the league, Donald earned eight First-Team All-Pro selections, made 10 Pro Bowls, and won NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times.
With training camp getting closer, rumors about Donald returning to the NFL are starting to pick up. According to The Polymarket App, there is currently a 49% chance that he could come out of retirement and rejoin the Rams. The speculation has grown even stronger since the team added Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns.
Schefter Says Donald Has Considered A Rams Return

Speaking on ESPN’s NFL Live on Monday, Schefter shared new details about Donald’s mindset as the start of training camp draws closer.
“The idea here is Donald himself has floated that he could potentially return to Los Angeles,” Schefter said. “He’s thinking about it. Training camp is getting closer next month. They’d have to come up with a plan for him to bring him back.”

Schefter also pointed to the unique situation waiting for Donald in Los Angeles. The Rams already added Garrett, and the chance to pair the two stars on the same defensive front has created excitement around the league.
“But where else right now would Aaron Donald be more wanted, more celebrated, more respected than in the Rams locker room, where Myles Garrett is already waiting for him?” Schefter said. “Again, no decision from Aaron Donald and we’ll see whether the two sides can get it done, but there seems to be a lot of momentum to the idea that this is certainly possible.”
Garrett recently addressed the possibility during an interview with the Rams’ social media team.
“We haven’t talked yet, but definitely expect to talk soon,” Garrett said. “I don’t know what his plans are and I won’t pretend to know, but a lot of people are excited and thrilled about the idea of him coming back.”
Garrett also explained how much Donald could offer the current defensive line group.
“Just being able to talk to him, learn from him, I’ll take all the advice I can,” Garrett said. “He’s a great one for a reason. Just trying to get him in here talking to the guys, especially the defensive line.”
For now, Donald has not made a decision.
