Derek Stingley Jr. had a moment on the Texans sideline this week that nobody saw coming. Cameras happened to be rolling for the whole thing.

Video shows the All-Pro cornerback standing near the bench, sipping a drink between reps. A ball flies toward him, catching him square in the chest. Stingley reacts fast, snapping his hands up to secure the catch before it could hit the ground.

That’s when things got interesting.

The impact knocks his pendant loose, throwing the large piece to the ground. Stingley looked down, clearly annoyed.

A clip showing the embarrassing moment spread quickly once it hit social media.

“Yoooo Derek Stingley Jr just pulled an Ace Hood,” X user @TurkeyMcGriddle wrote, alongside a string of laughing emojis.

Check it out below:

Fans were pretty kind to Stingley in the comments.

“That don’t mean it’s fake .. I hate the internet,” one pointed out.

“I don’t think it’s fake, but wearing fake J when you up Ms is smart af,” another chimed in.

“This is different because the ball hit his shit directly. Ace hood shit just fell apart on its own,” said a third.

The Ace Hood Comparison Runs Deep In Hip-Hop History

The reference lands because of just how infamous the original moment became. Rapper Ace Hood found himself the subject of nationwide mockery back in 2013, when the bezel on his Rolex fell completely apart during a live red carpet interview with Bow Wow and Angela Simmons at the BET Awards.

Ace Hood tried to screw the piece back on in real time, live on camera, without success. He later told Power 106 he’d spent $60,000 on the watch and had no idea what happened, eventually firing the jeweler responsible for the piece.

The moment became one of hip-hop’s most-referenced jewelry mishaps, spawning memes and jokes that have followed Ace Hood for over a decade.

Stingley’s situation played out far less dramatically than Ace Hood’s did. His chain came loose rather than breaking apart entirely. Still, the visual similarity, a piece of jewelry coming undone at an unexpected moment on camera, was enough to draw the instant comparison from fans watching closely.

Stingley Has Become One Of The Faces Of Houston’s Defense

The moment adds a lighter footnote to what’s otherwise been a standout year for Stingley on the field.

He enters 2026 fresh off signing a three-year, $90 million extension that made him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, a deal that reflects back-to-back First-Team All-Pro seasons and a role at the center of one of the league’s most talked-about secondaries.

Stingley remains one of the players Houston is counting on most heading into this season, as the Texans look to build on consecutive AFC South titles.

For now, Stingley’s jewelry has mostly survived its own brush with disaster, unlike Ace Hood’s ill-fated Rolex all those years ago.

Whether the clip earns him any lasting nickname remains to be seen, but it’s highly unlikely.
