The New England Patriots could get a major break with AJ Brown, five weeks after the star wide receiver suffered an injury that forced the team to place him on injured reserve.

The Patriots built on their 29-26 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, beating the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, 45-17. The week started with good news for the AFC East squad. Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Brown “could be back as soon as this week,” which would provide extra help to Drake Maye.

At 3-2, the Patriots are in good position to challenge the Bills for the division title. Having Brown back would take them to the next level.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel (via NFL insider Ian Rapoport) announced that the Patriots opened the practice window for Brown. The veteran remains on IR, but he has been pushing to practice this week.

Rapoport notes that it may be a bit early for a return from a high-ankle sprain, but he continues to push for a return.

Without Brown in the picture, Romeo Doubs and Mack Hollins stepped up. However, the production Brown brings to the table remains unmatched.

In his lone game this season, Brown caught three passes for 26 yards against the Seattle Seahawks. The Patriots take on the New York Jets on Sunday, hoping to have their WR1 ready to go.
