Deshaun Watson is the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback again. Coach Todd Monken made the call on Monday. Fans immediately showed their frustration outside the team facility.
Drivers yelled in anger as they passed the building. The training complex sits away from major roads. Those fans went out of their way to voice their displeasure.

The decision came two days after Watson was heavily booed in a preseason loss. He completed just 5 of 12 passes for 36 yards and threw an interception. The home crowd made its feelings clear every time he took the field.
Watson first called the reaction “disrespectful” and personal.
Deshaun Watson Fires Back Then Softens Stance
Watson addressed the boos after the Bills game. He noted that fans had cheered when he tore his Achilles in 2024. He felt the hostility went beyond his performance that night.
“Last time I played on this field I tore my Achilles and that same fanbase, they cheered when I got hurt,” Watson said. “What does that have to do with anything about performance? When a person gets hurt, especially for your own city, and they cheer.”
By Monday, he struck a different tone.
“My emotions got the best of me,” he said.
He claimed the comments were never meant to attack the entire fan base. He also said he thrives on their energy and wants to win for the city.
Some supporters postponed ticket renewals. Others called the choice a slap in the face. A sign taped to the Jim Brown statue reflected the mood around the stadium.

Deshaun Watson Decision Draws Sharp Criticism
Analysts piled on as well. Mina Kimes ripped the move and said the organization does not respect its fans. She argued Watson has been bad at football and that the boos are largely about his play.
Watson previously fired back at the crowd before softening his message. The quarterback competition with Shedeur Sanders created extra tension throughout camp.
Monken insisted the full body of work led him to Watson for the road opener against Jacksonville. Cleveland fans continue to make their dissatisfaction known. The season starts with clear friction between the starter and the stands.
