In Week 1, Cleveland Browns star running back Dylan Sampson suffered a knee injury.

It happened during the first quarter of their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. While the Browns aren’t considered Super Bowl contenders this season, this is not how they want their 2026 campaign to start.

Now, the Browns formally placed Sampson in IR. It’s unclear when he’ll be back on the field. With their RB depth already questionable, the team has moved to bolster its rotation with its latest addition to the team.

Dylan Sampson is expected to miss time. How long he’ll be out remains a huge question. Cleveland will have to rely more on Quinshon Judkins and Raheim Sanders. Now, they’ve added veteran Jaleel McLaughlin for additional depth.

McLaughlin was signed to the Browns’ practice squad on September 1. But he’ll have a chance to show his worth for the team with Sampson out.

A bit undersized at 5-foot-7, the 26-year-old does have experience on the field. He has recorded 1,093 yards so far in his career. The bulk of it came in 2024, back when he was still with the Denver Broncos.

Browns RB Needs To Step It Up

Browns head coach Todd Monken has stated that their offense needs to step up after their loss to the Jaguars. He still has faith in Deshaun Watson. However, the already-troubled QB needs much more from his team to make this a respectable season for the franchise.

As McLauglin was called up to the active roster, Cleveland made another surprising move on Tuesday. They signed former New York Giants fifth-round pick Eric Gray to the team’s practice squad. Gray’s signing adds more depth at RB for the Browns until Dylan Sampson returns.

As for now, Quinshon Judkins remains the team’s starting RB heading into Week 2. Raheim Sanders will be his primary backup. However, if McLaughlin impresses, don’t be surprised if he plays more snaps.
