The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to reach a conclusion about Joey Porter Jr’s contract extension. Both parties failed to come to a deal. Apparently, they are at a stalemate.

Porter Jr was officially listed as inactive against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1. The Steelers said that their star CB’s absence was due to a back injury. However, some pundits aren’t convinced about the team’s reasoning. The timing was a bit suspicious.

During the offseason, the 26-year-old was the subject of trade rumors. While nothing has yet gained any traction, a trade is becoming a possibility. And now, two Super Bowl contenders are reportedly closely monitoring the CB’s situation at Pittsburgh.

Chiefs And Lions Rumored To Be Interested In Joey Porter Jr

Acquiring a talented cornerback is a must for every NFL team. And Joey Porter Jr definitely checks all the marks in that position. Still in his prime years, any contender would want to have a CB like him on their roster.

Now, the rumor mill has gone up a notch as teams are preparing for Week 2. The Chiefs and the Lions are two teams to watch if the Steelers suddenly decide to make Porter Jr available via trade.

“Rumors: The Chiefs and Lions could be teams to watch as trade destinations for disgruntled Steelers’ cornerback Joey Porter Jr, per Ian Rapoport.”

For now, these are all rumors. But those often materialize when people are not looking further into it.

The Chiefs could use a guy like Porter Jr on their team. With their offense pretty much set, bolstering their defense by adding the star CB will definitely make them a legitimate Super Bowl threat.

Lions’ Interest In Porter Jr Does Hold Some Weight

While the Porter Jr to Kansas City link is nothing but speculation, the Detroit Lions do have a legitimate interest in the Steelers’ disgruntled star.

After Terrion Arnold was released in the offseason, the team only has D.J. Reed and Rock Ya-Sin as the starting outside cornerbacks. Behind those two, the Lions have Keith Abney II as backup.

If the Steelers and Porter Jr won’t settle their differences, then there’s a chance that the famed CB may land with the Chiefs or the Lions. Or maybe another team swoops to secure Porter Jr’s services.
