Cleveland Browns Get Tough Reality Check Regarding Their QB Situation & Shedeur Sanders’ Role For 2026
This article was originally published on Total Pro Sports.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders showed glimpses during his rookie season. He had to wait until Week 11 to take the field, and once he did, he never looked back. Sanders went 120 of 212 for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns with 10 interceptions.
He will be in the room with Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel for 2026. Some reports suggested the Browns could add a new quarterback, namely Ty Simpson, but that might not be as easy as expected.
The Browns continue to struggle at the quarterback position, and one analyst believes their hopes lie in Sanders becoming the player his fans expect him to be.
Analyst Shares Prediction About Shedeur Sanders’ Position With Browns

On Saturday, ESPN’s reporter Daniel Oyefusi said on 92.3 The Fan that Cleveland’s most realistic scenario to fix the quarterback issue would be hoping that Shedeur Sanders turns into a reliable starter.
“Realistically, the best pathway for the Browns and this current roster is for one of these incumbent guys to take off. And really, you’re looking at Shedeur because he’s younger and you saw some flashes this past year,” Oyefusi said. “That is, in an ideal world for the Browns, their pathway to contending in 2026 and beyond. The question is, is that realistic and possible?
“The first and second waves of free agency have passed, no quarterback has been added. The only other real logical way to add a quarterback is through the draft. But they’re not going to get Fernando Mendoza. We’ll see about Ty Simpson and some of these other guys. But really, I think this current quarterback room is what we’re looking at when we talk about a quarterback competition and who is going to lead this offense in 2026.”
Sanders gave something different to the offense last season. He can develop under an offensive-minded head coach, Todd Monken, who helped Lamar Jackson play at a high level in Baltimore.
