Shedeur Sanders’ days as the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback might be numbered after the team hosted a quarterback prospect on Thursday. After the 2026 NFL Combine, many players will visit teams around the league.

The Browns, who own the No. 6 overall pick in April’s draft, didn’t find a real answer in Sanders and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel last season. Deshaun Watson will return in 2026, and he might have a bigger role next campaign, but Cleveland continues to look for their franchise quarterback.

Gabriel appears to be on his way out, with Sanders set to compete to start again. Meanwhile, the Browns hosted quarterback Ty Simpson on Thursday.

“Former Alabama QB Ty Simpson is on a visit with the Browns, per sources. The consensus QB2 in this year’s NFL Draft, Simpson is coming off a strong showing at the NFL combine. Cleveland owns the No. 6 and 24 picks,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero wrote.

Simpson had a terrific senior season with Alabama, going 305 of 473 for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns with five interceptions. He is considered the second-best quarterback of his class, only behind Fernando Mendoza.

Before he committed to Alabama, Todd Monken tried to recruit Ty Simpson to the Georgia Bulldogs. Five years later, they could finally join forces in Cleveland. Simpson didn’t mince words when praising Monken.

“I know he loves ball,” Simpson said of Monken at the combine. “I know he loves football, and I know that’s what I love as well. Super smart guy. I remember him coming to my school (while he was) at Georgia. Him and my dad actually have a great relationship because he coached at Southern Miss for a little bit, and his pedigree with all the NFL teams that he’s been with, and what he did with Lamar (Jackson) and at Georgia, it’s just super real. So, a lot of respect for him and the Browns organization. I think they’ve made a great hire.”

This could be the start of a solid partnership. Sanders showed flashes last season, but he’ll need to prove his value again, as the Browns will have an open competition for the second consecutive campaign.
