Cleveland Browns Receive Brutal Injury Update On Star Running Back After Nightmare Season Opener

The list of injuries after the opening week of football keeps growing. Possible contenders such as the Ravens and the Patriots all received bad news after Week 1. Now, the Browns have received their share of bad news as well.
Cleveland’s first game of the 2026 season was, for the lack of a better word, discouraging. They were thoroughly outworked by the Jacksonville Jaguars, 34-10.
Deshaun Watson’s third pass of the game was intercepted. That play alone might be a precursor of how their season would play out. But that wasn’t the only ugly incident of the night for the Browns, though.
Browns’ Dylan Sampson Expected To Miss Significant Time

Their star running back, Dylan Sampson, injured his knee during the first quarter against the Jaguars. When he’ll be able to come back isn’t publicly available yet. But the injury looked serious.
“Browns RB Dylan Sampson is expected to miss significant time due to the knee injury suffered Sunday in Jacksonville, per sources. Sampson was spotted on crutches after the game,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler posted on X.

After sustaining the injury, he was deemed questionable for return at first. However, Sampson was later ruled out of the game.
With Sampson on crutches, Browns fans could only hope that his injury wasn’t too serious. Coach Todd Monken has not released an update about his prized RB. The team is still evaluating the severity of Sampson’s injury.
Browns Need Other RBs To Step Up

With Dylan Sampson expected to miss time, the Browns will have to rely more on Quinshon Judkins and Raheim Sanders. However, neither impressed against Jacksonville in the opening week.
Cleveland could go deep in the bag and call up Jaleel McLaughlin from the practice squad. Even though a bit undersized at just 5-foot-7, McLaughlin has proven that he could be a suitable option at RB due to his experience on the field.
The Browns already have a huge problem with their QB rotation. Now, their running back depth is becoming worrisome. Looks like this will be another long season for Browns fans.
