Unlike other teams that have dealt with major injury problems ahead of the 2026 season, the Buffalo Bills have remained mostly unscathed. But that would soon change due to some concerning news.

With their game against the Texans inching closer, the problem is becoming bigger and bigger. Despite Josh Allen’s brilliance, even he could have problems on the field if nobody steps it up for the team.

It’s becoming a reality that the Bills would have to face the Texans with only two running backs active on their roster.

Ty Johnson continues to be held out of the team’s practices due to a hamstring injury. That means the team has only James Cook and Ray Davis available for the position.

The Bills could elevate Frank Gore Jr. from the practice squad to provide some additional depth. Right now, it’s highly unlikely that Johnson would be available in their season opener.

“With Ty Johnson still not practicing, the Bills have only three running backs practicing on the overall 70-man roster. James Cook, Ray Davis, and Frank Gore, Jr., who could be elevated from the practice squad Sunday,” per Bills reporter Sal Capaccio.

Injury scares have become a bit of a theme for the Bills this offseason.

Joe Brady Will Make His Bill Debut

After Sean McDermott’s firing, the Buffalo Bills gave Joe Brady a five-year deal to be their head coach. And against the Texans, this will be his debut as a head coach in the NFL.

At just 36 years old, he is set to become the youngest coach in the league in the 2026 season. 

Most importantly, Brady has established a great relationship with the team’s superstar QB, Josh Allen.

“He’s the first one in, the last one out. When he says he loves to work, he truly loves to work. He loves football, he loves this game,” Allen said of Brady in a previous interview.
